ISRAEL Inside: How a Small Nation Makes a Big Difference


Some of you asked for more information about this 10-minute video: "The Invisible Israel," which was in my August 7, 2013 post.

Well, "The Invisible Israel" is a summarized version of a new 55-minute film documentary "ISRAEL Inside"
that explores the positive characteristics of Israeli society from a humanistic, psychological, and emotional perspective.

The documentary is hosted by Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar, Positive psychology expert, who taught the most popular course at Harvard, but decided he’d be happiest back home in Israel; its two writers are Baruch Goldberg and Rebecca Shore.

The documentary appropriately sidesteps the usual conversation of politics, conflict and violence, and tells the story of the Israeli people.  It embarks on understanding why such a small nation could make such a big difference, why Israel was capable of turning a desert with hardly any natural resources into a flourishing and productive society, what accounts for Israel's success.  The documentary takes an in-depth look inside Israeli society, and came up with the conclusion that what you see in Israel is the triumph of the human spirit

, what Israel embodies in its citizenry are the core character strengths necessary for any society to develop, progress and get on the road to prosperity.
These core character strengths are described as the 6 "actualizers."  They are:
  1. Family, immediate and the community, care, support and emphasis on fulfillment of each one's potential.
  2. Adversity to Advantage, imagination, innovation, resilience and perseverance against long odds.
  3. Chutzpah, taking risks, challenging norms.
  4. Education, there is no substitute to a highly knowledgeable and informed populace.
  5. Taking Action, make things happen, take an idea and turn it into action, do not give in to perceived difficulties or resignation to status quo, and
  6. Tikkun Olam "repairing the world" (or "healing the world"), as an overall focus.
