The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.

Among the many casualties of the Muslim Brotherhood's, and other extremists' and fanatics' efforts to regain/attain power, dominate the landscape, control society and influence affairs in Egypt, are the helpless, distraught animals of the Giza Zoo… and the Zoo itself.
I submit to you friends that Egypt will NEVER be great again until and unless it rids itself of these impostors of Egyptians and consequently, as a byproduct, respects and protects its animals as its own sons and daughters, not an iota less!!! It is impossible to overemphasize that a nation taking care of its animals is as critical to the fabric of its character as the freedom, education, health and prosperity of its people.
Please see 3 articles below to appreciate my frustration and anguish as to where the Egypt I grew up loving and enjoying is headed. It is easy to say let us take care of people first, who cares about animals.....I fundamentally and categorically disagree with such logic, that is not civilization.
Last but not least, the hurtful irony here is that this is not all due to current MBs' violent and disgraceful protests. In my visits to Cairo in the last four decades, I had noticed that the Zoo was going downhill. Just a year ago, Daily News Egypt probed the conditions in Egyptian public zoos, which suffer severe mismanagement, see article #4 "Your zoo is a prison."

A nation needs morals and ethics to survive and thrive. If those factors are gone, the nation is gone.
