Ibrahim Issa here is at his best, succinctly outlining the issues surrounding Islam. These issues are globally holding Islam hostage and in the process preventing it from joining the other religions in adapting to the 21st century and beyond. Ibrahim Issa is calling out all of the Muslim ostriches, who are willfully and hypocritically denying and questioning the obvious, who upon coming face to face with reality are working hard to circumvent it and dismiss it as irrelevant to Islam. My own take in regards the unfathomable horror that took place in Paris is that Islam must, no way around that, categorically undergo a massive and fundamental reform from its roots up. Work must start immediately to rebuke and refute the Islamic ideology espoused by Muslim extremists in order to look ahead to future generations of Muslim men and women. In this, you ask, actually you demand, that key Muslim clergy, leaders of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, key Muslim scholars, key media figures - and anybody else who cares to chime in - dissect, interpret and explain the Quran, the Hadith and all Islamic texts contextually, from the time of Prophet Mohamed on. They need to identify what was relevant then and what does not belong to modern times; and most importantly clearly indicate that Islam is but one religion of many religions, each of them providing what their adherents desire and need.
Islam must be reformed to provide the help and support Muslim people need to thrive with dignity in the modern civilized world. Such effort is not a one-time deal, it must start now, yes, but it should be kept up for generations to come, the prevailing extreme ideology, the current interpretation of Islam's doctrine did not start yesterday!!!
Egypt's President Sissi recognizes this. He has called for such a review and reform, asking Egypt's El-Azhar to lead the way. It took a special brand of courage and leadership for him to make such an appeal in Egypt in the midst of the Arab world. I salute him.
