The documentary explores a cycle of revolution and repression, in which new political actors keep emerging, over time, to play traditional roles.
To evoke the past, film-maker Jihan El-Tahriuses clips from popular Egyptian movies, discussing six of them.
A good and clever overview, as we all know, lots more took place since the 50s. At the end of the day, our beloved Egypt remains dancing on the stairs, going nowhere in a hurry, firmly stuck between its military and its Islamists with neither having the competency, the character or the intention (not to mention an honest legitimacy!) of pushing it forward towards a good dignified life for its long-suffering citizens. Same citizens who have been sold over decades on the merits!!! of forgoing their rights to a fulfilling life and of focusing instead on the afterlife.
